Xcel Team

INSPIRING an achievement mindset, in a HIGH ENERGY environment through athletic development. We are committed to delivering a POSITIVE, IMACTFUL experience where athletes can build a FOUNDATION to THRIVE anywhere as athletes AND people.

Xcel General Overview

The objective of the Xcel Competitive Program is to provide a competitive opportunity for gymnasts who seek to advance beyond recreational classes and/or the pre team levels, but with limited intensity and time commitment.  Requirements are more flexible (than that of the developmental program) therefore less training time is required.  Athletes are free to have more variation with skill development.  Xcel competitive gymnasts will compete in USA Gymnastics sanctioned travel competitions with 5 mandatory competitions per season with the option of addition travel meets if desired.

There are 5 levels within the Xcel competitive program, bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond.  Gymnasts will begin participating in travel competition when they reach the silver level.  The bronze level is considered a modified competitive level where athletes will participate in a combination of in-house fun meets and travel fun meets to provide preparation for sanctioned competition.  Time commitment does not increase beyond 2 days per week, however the option of additional training is available once athletes reach the silver level.

Building the Foundation

START HERE. THRIVE EVERYWHERE

Stars & Stripes introduced the Xcel program in the fall of 2006. The program has proven to be extremely successful. Over the past years we have had many state championship teams and individual state champions. The program is still fairly new to the state of Michigan and USA Gymnastics, however everyone has enjoyed the program immensely, therefore it is continuing to grow. It is a great experience for gymnasts who love the sport, and it is a great opportunity to be a part of a team. The Xcel program at Stars & Stripes is not a path to the Junior Olympic program, it is rather an entity of its’ own. Xcel gymnasts will have the opportunity to work their way up the levels within the Xcel program.

Xcel gymnasts (except Bronze) will compete in approximately 5 meets per year (meet season usually runs January through May), however a year round commitment to gymnastics is necessary. Competitions are all held in the state of Michigan.

Competitive Paths

We want every athlete to have the opportunity to participate in competitive gymnastics in some capacity if they wish to do so.  We recognize that every child has unique needs, goals and abilities; which is why we offer two competitive paths, the Xcel Competitive Program and the Developmental Competitive program.

Each program with provide athletes with the opportunity to compete in USA Gymnastics sanctioned events offering different levels of intensity and time commitment.  Aspiring competitive gymnasts will typically begin in the pre team program, then they will continue they competitive training in either the Developmental or Xcel competitive program.
